The historic Orpheum Theatre, lovingly renovated by a dedicated group of citizens and the city of Phoenix, lends an intimate elegance to our Broadway classics. The Orpheum is an important part of Phoenix's downtown entertainment district, which includes America West Arena, Bank One Ballpark, the Herberger Theatre Center and Phoenix Symphony Hall.

Facts & History

  • Built in 1929 in a style known as Spanish Baroque Revival at a cost of $750,000, by J.E. Rickards and Harry Nace for movies and vaudeville.
  • Purchased by the Paramount movie chain in 1949, its name changed to Paramount. Sold to James Nederlander in 1968 for live stage productions and named changed to Palace West.
  • The Orpheum is the last remaining example of theatre palace architecture in Phoenix and is the only theatre designated historic in the Valley.

    The Orpheum Theatre, located at 203 W. Adams St. between Second and Third avenues (on the northeast corner of Phoenix City Hall) has graced the heart of downtown Phoenix for 80 years.
